New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) - Politicians or leaders who disparage India while on foreign soil, causing embarrassment to the nation and its people, are often seen as “disconnected and detached” from the country’s true essence, remarked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, targeting the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday.
The Delhi CM’s pointed comments towards the Congress leader came during the opening ceremony of the Delhi Shabdotsav, a three-day literary and cultural festival being held at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in the city.
While addressing the audience, the Chief Minister elaborated on the significance of maintaining a connection with and taking pride in India’s civilizational heritage. She criticized any efforts to portray the nation negatively abroad, directly referencing Rahul Gandhi's controversial statements made during his visits to universities and public forums in the West.
“Disconnection from the roots and civilization of our country leads to disrespectful words against it; otherwise, there is no justification for such behavior,” she stated, without naming the Congress leader.
Expressing her joy over the organization of the Shabdotsav, one of the largest literary and cultural events in India, she noted that such a grand occasion has never been hosted on a governmental platform.
“Today, India is engaging with its past, present, and future simultaneously, embarking on a historic journey from the Vedic era to the digital age, making this festival of words a remarkable witness,” she added.
Furthermore, she praised the nation's rich heritage and civilizational resilience, stating that India has faced numerous attacks but has always emerged resilient and strong.
“The world has attempted to undermine our knowledge, civilization, and culture multiple times. However, our strong roots ensure that we remain steadfast today,” she emphasized.
She also highlighted her government’s commitment over the past year to celebrate every festival enthusiastically and to honor historical figures.
