New Delhi, Dec 31 (NationPress) The Delhi Urban Development Minister, Ashish Sood, announced on Wednesday that the government is undertaking serious measures to combat the escalating pollution crisis in the national capital. He also highlighted that environmental factors from neighboring states significantly impact the city’s air quality.
On Wednesday, the air quality in the capital further declined, falling into the 'severe' category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting 408. The combination of dense fog and heavy pollution severely impaired visibility across many areas of the city, complicating travel for residents.
During a site visit at Janakpuri C2C Block, Sood remarked, 'This pollution isn't solely attributed to current issues or just Delhi. The surrounding states significantly contribute to the pollution levels. Therefore, the Delhi government is engaging with these neighboring states.'
He indicated that the government is addressing the crisis from various angles.
'We are making efforts to manage dust, enhance public transport, and lower vehicle emissions to improve air quality. If the previous government had taken action last year beyond the odd/even vehicle formula, we might not be facing such severe pollution issues today. They neglected these responsibilities, and now we are left to clean up their mess,' Sood stated.
The Minister emphasized that the government is implementing tangible actions rather than relying on mere slogans, asserting, 'We are tirelessly working to tackle the pollution challenge. It’s crucial to take serious measures rather than just repeating the empty promises made by the previous administration.'
'In addition to the odd/even scheme, we are developing a new EV policy, controlling dust on roads, and launching Phase V of the metro system for public transport. While these initiatives may take time, we are persistently seeking solutions to Delhi's pollution dilemma.'
Sood also pointed out the ongoing monitoring and inspections conducted by the government.
'Every week, Delhi Ministers and senior officials inspect cleanliness and development projects in about three locations,' he noted.
'Over the past year, I have addressed numerous issues in my capacity as an MLA. I assure the public that whether it involves the Municipal Corporation or any other agency, under the Delhi government, we will solve all challenges. Shifting blame to others is a thing of the past. We are committed to taking responsibility and alleviating the struggles faced by the residents of Delhi.'
Meanwhile, the air quality remains alarming across multiple regions of the capital.
The ongoing foggy conditions align with concerning forecasts from air quality analysts, who warn that pollution levels in the national capital region are expected to worsen as the year concludes.
