Mathura, Dec 16 (NationPress) Tragically, at least four individuals lost their lives while 25 more were injured in a severe road mishap on the Delhi-Agra Expressway in Mathura early Tuesday morning. The incident involved a collision between seven buses and three cars due to the dense fog that blanketed the area, as reported by officials.

The poor visibility stemming from the thick fog resulted in a significant multi-vehicle crash, where various vehicles collided with each other in the pre-dawn hours.

One of the vehicles erupted in flames, causing panic among the passengers trapped inside.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that search and rescue operations were almost complete, and efforts were being made to clear the highway and transport stranded passengers safely.

"Around 4 a.m., eight buses and three smaller vehicles collided. Four individuals have died due to this unfortunate accident. Furthermore, at least 25 people have sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the district hospital. Thankfully, none are in serious condition," he informed reporters.

The SSP indicated that the dense fog and resulting visibility issues were the primary causes of this chain reaction collision. Additionally, some vehicles caught fire during the event.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the situation as "very unfortunate" and provided updates regarding the ongoing relief operations.

While the precise cause of the multi-vehicle pile-up, exacerbated by the fog, would be investigated later, the immediate priority remains on relief efforts and ensuring that the injured receive optimal medical care.

This incident follows a similar occurrence the previous day, where dense fog resulted in a deadly pile-up involving approximately 20 vehicles on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway early Monday morning.

That crash, which transpired around 5 a.m., resulted in four fatalities, including two police officers, and left an estimated 15 to 20 others with serious injuries.

Officials noted that the massive pile-up in that case was also attributed to extremely low visibility due to thick fog, raising concerns regarding road safety during the winter fog season.

Point of View

This incident underscores the critical need for improved road safety measures, especially during extreme weather conditions. As the nation grapples with rising numbers of such accidents, it becomes imperative to prioritize public safety and implement effective solutions to prevent future tragedies.
