Kolkata, Jan 5 (NationPress) Numerous celebrities and their relatives have received notices from the Election Commission to participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings in West Bengal.

On Monday, it was revealed that actor and Trinamool Congress MP Dev, whose real name is Deepak Adhikari, has been called to the SIR hearing.

Reports indicate that three additional family members of his have also been notified about the SIR hearings.

However, the specific date and time for their required appearance at the hearing center, along with necessary documents, remains undisclosed.

As of now, neither Dev nor his family has issued an official statement following the receipt of the SIR hearing notice.

The ruling Trinamool Congress party has claimed that sending such a notice to Dev, a prominent actor and elected official, is nothing short of harassment.

It is noteworthy that Dev was born in Ghatal, located in the West Midnapore district, and later moved to Mumbai due to his father's job. Eventually, he settled permanently in Kolkata to advance his acting career.

His permanent residence is at the South City residential complex in Kolkata. Besides his stardom in Tollywood, Dev has also served as a three-time MP representing Ghatal.

Furthermore, he is not the only figure from the Bengali film industry under scrutiny; renowned actor Anirban Bhattacharya has also received a hearing notice concerning the SIR, stemming from his origin in West Midnapore. Anirban allegedly failed to provide documentation from 2002 while completing his enumeration form, prompting the hearing.

Additionally, two actor couples from Tollygunge, Kaushik Banerjee and Laboni Sarkar, have also been summoned.

Laboni mentioned to reporters after attending the hearing center, "This is the government's responsibility. We have no questions or answers, but we complied. They had us sign two papers, compared our signatures, and then allowed us to leave."

Local Trinamool Congress Councillor Mousumi Das criticized the Election Commission for summoning numerous celebrities for the SIR hearing, asserting that there is no justification for calling busy actors and actresses in such a manner, labeling these notices as a means of unnecessary harassment.

In another development, Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has also been summoned for a SIR hearing.

Councillor Mousumi Das from ward No. 93 in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation confirmed that Shami has received a notice.

Although originally from Uttar Pradesh, Shami has long been a voter in the Jadavpur Assembly constituency in southern Kolkata. Sources indicate that he has been summoned due to complications surrounding his enumeration form.

Shami was set to attend the hearing on Monday but could not due to his cricket commitments, as he is currently participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot and plans to attend the hearing at a later date.

Additionally, his brother has also received a summons.

Although Shami hails from Uttar Pradesh, he has resided in Kolkata for an extended period due to his cricket career, relocating at a young age on his coach's advice. He gained attention from cricket coach Sambaran Banerjee and earned a spot on the Bengal Under-22 team, marking the beginning of his cricket journey. He has also competed in the Mohun Bagan Cricket Cup.
