Chennai, Jan 3 (NationPress) The discussions regarding seat-sharing between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are moving ahead without any hitches, according to Girish Chodankar, Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge, who spoke on Saturday. Chodankar asserted that any claims about negotiations with other parties are mere fabrications.
While addressing the media in Chennai, Chodankar mentioned that following the Congress's decision to maintain its alliance with the DMK, a special committee was formed to engage in talks with the DMK leadership.
“For nearly a month, we have been actively engaged in discussions. The Congress enjoys a strong and reliable partnership with the DMK. The specific number of seats the Congress will contest in the 2026 Assembly elections will be revealed soon,” he stated.
He dismissed any speculation regarding discussions with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), clarifying that no formal talks had taken place.
“Rumors about a potential alliance with TVK are unfounded. We have not held any official discussions with that party,” he added.
Chodankar also mentioned that the Congress is focused on bolstering its organizational structure ahead of the elections. Multiple committees related to election management are being established, and the party has received over 5,000 applications from volunteers eager to participate in the campaign.
This enthusiastic response indicates the party's readiness as it gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections.
Addressing internal concerns raised by Congress MP Jyothimani, Chodankar revealed that a committee has been formed to investigate the allegations. He emphasized that internal matters should remain confidential, especially during the election campaign.
“Publicly airing such concerns creates confusion among the electorate. We are seeking clarification from Ms. Jyothimani, and she is encouraged to express her issues to the party leadership through the proper channels,” he stated.
Chodankar further noted that clarifications have been requested from Congress district executives in Karur regarding this issue, which has also been communicated to the All India Congress Committee leadership.
“Party members must avoid discussing internal matters on public forums. Maintaining discipline and unity is critical as we approach the elections,” he remarked.
Reaffirming the Congress's commitment to the DMK-led alliance, Chodankar expressed confidence in contesting the 2026 Assembly elections as part of a united and credible coalition.
