- Tests carried out from Chandipur, Odisha.
- Defence Minister praised the achievement as a 'great success'.
New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully conducting three consecutive flight trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS).
Throughout all three flight trials, the missiles effectively intercepted and completely obliterated targets that featured reduced thermal signatures, simulating low-flying drones under various flight conditions.
The missile system is designed to fulfill the operational requirements of all three branches of the Armed Forces, namely the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The tests were executed from Chandipur, located off the coast of Odisha.
As reported by the Ministry of Defence, these trials were conducted against high-speed targets flying at very low altitudes. The flight tests took place in the final deployment format, where two field operators managed weapon readiness, target acquisition, and missile firing.
The flight data recorded by various range instruments, including Telemetry, Electro-Optical Tracking System, and Radar, deployed by the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, confirmed the pinpoint accuracy and showcased the unique capability of the VSHORADS missile system in neutralizing drones and other classes of aerial threats.
Senior officials from DRDO, the Armed Forces, and development and production partners were present to witness the flight tests.
VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence system that has been indigenously designed and developed by Research Center Imarat in collaboration with various DRDO laboratories and Development cum Production Partners.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his congratulations to DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the industries for the successful flight tests, referring to it as a great success.
Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R and D and Chairman of DRDO, also commended the entire DRDO team, users, and industry partners.
