Agartala, Nov 18 (NationPress) In a significant achievement in the fight against narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, confiscated 800 gm of cocaine valued at nearly Rs 8 crore and apprehended two individuals involved in drug trafficking in Tripura, officials reported on Tuesday.
In another operation, security personnel successfully dismantled 1.2 million semi-mature cannabis plants, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 50 crore, in the Sepahijala district of Tripura.
The Defence Spokesperson stated that Assam Rifles, alongside Customs officials, seized 800 gm of premium-grade cocaine in the center of Agartala on Monday.
This confiscated substance, with a value nearing Rs 8 crore, represents one of the most substantial cocaine seizures in the region in recent times.
The operation, which was initiated based on reliable intelligence, also led to the arrest of two suspects connected to this trafficking attempt.
An official announcement highlighted that this operation reflects the steadfast dedication of Assam Rifles towards fostering a drug-free society and its ongoing efforts to combat the issue of narcotics trafficking in the Northeast.

A police spokesperson revealed that this crackdown was a joint effort involving the Sepahijala district Police, personnel from four Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalions, Central Reserve Police Force, Women Tripura State Rifles, district civil administration, and the Forest Department.
The operation, led by Bijoy Debbarma, Superintendent of Police for Sepahijala, targeted regions including Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar, and Ghatigar, covering five police station jurisdictions.
