Drugs Worth Rs 34.82 Crore Annihilated in Nagaland

Kohima, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Nagaland Police have annihilated drugs worth Rs 34.82 crore in Dimapur, as reported by an official on Friday.
A police officer stated that the destruction of drugs valued at Rs 34.82 crore took place at the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) dumping ground located at Burma Camp on December 5.
The District Drug Disposal Committee, Dimapur, led by Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, along with the Superintendent of Police (Crime) and other officials, conducted a physical verification of the drugs on site at the prosecuting inspector's court office prior to their destruction.
Previously, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur, sanctioned the drug destruction proposal.
According to reports from the Commissioner of Police, 79 cases had been registered across 9 police stations under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
The drugs that were destroyed consist of brown sugar, heroin, sunflower, crystal meth, cough syrup, and opium straw.
Methamphetamine, also known as meth, is a potent and highly addictive stimulant that impacts the central nervous system.
Following the guidance of the Central Government, all states regularly destroy seized drugs.
Authorities including the Police, Customs, Assam Rifles, and the Border Security Force have consistently been intercepting drugs in the northeastern region.
From November 20 to December 2, the Assam Rifles and state police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, confiscated various drugs valued at Rs 170 crore in Tripura and Mizoram.
On December 2, in a noteworthy operation, the Assam Rifles and state police seized a substantial amount of drugs worth Rs 68.03 crore in Mizoram's Champhai district, which borders Myanmar.
On November 24, the Assam Rifles, in conjunction with Customs, confiscated one kg of Crystal Methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 16 crore from Badharghat, near Agartala, the capital city of Tripura.
On November 20, the Assam Rifles and state police jointly seized 28.520 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, 52 grams of heroin valued at Rs 85.95 crore, along with a foreign pistol, in three separate operations in Mizoram's Champhai district.
The regions of Mizoram, southern Assam, and Tripura serve as a convenient corridor for drug trafficking, following smuggling routes from Myanmar.
Various narcotics, particularly heroin and highly addictive Methamphetamine tablets, are frequently smuggled into northeastern India from Myanmar, which shares a 1,643-km unfenced border with four northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km), and Mizoram (510 km).
