Patna, June 27 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events, passengers aboard the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Duronto Express faced a terrifying ordeal when they were robbed near Gaya, Bihar, during the early hours of Friday.
As reported by an official from the Gaya Government Railway Police (GRP), a band of unidentified thieves struck at least five coaches of the train, making off with bags, mobile phones, laptops, and other personal belongings.
Following the robbery, the perpetrators activated the emergency chain between Paraiya and Kastha stations along the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU)-Gaya railway line around 2 a.m., halting the train for more than half an hour before disappearing into the night.
Passengers voiced their concerns, revealing that at least 12 individuals were victims of theft, leading to widespread panic.
Some travelers noted that a few individuals were loitering on Thursday night when the train left DDU railway station.
“It’s alarming that there were no railway protection force personnel present in the coaches to ensure passenger safety,” remarked a passenger at Gaya Railway Station.
This incident has triggered outrage among passengers, who protested at Gaya Railway Station, demanding the recovery of their stolen items.
Upon receiving the report, railway police and local Paraiya police quickly arrived at the scene to commence their investigation.
A special task force led by the Railway DSP has been established to apprehend the criminals.
During the initial investigation, multiple empty bags were discovered near the tracks, suggesting that the thieves had discarded them after stealing their contents.
The police are investigating the possibility of a well-organized gang being behind this incident.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Gaya GRP police station regarding this theft.
It is noteworthy that a similar incident occurred two months ago involving the same Duronto Express near Tankuppa station on the Gaya-Koderma railway line.
