New Delhi, Nov 21 (NationPress) The government announced on Friday that the integration of e-KYC can serve as a straightforward, trustworthy, precise, and effective method for verifying job cards.
The Ministry of Rural Development aims to facilitate transparent and efficient execution of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), ensuring that rural households reap the benefits provided by the Act.
With a vast reach, MGNREGA spans over 2.69 lakh Gram Panchayats across India, involving more than 26 crore registered workers.
“Verification of job cards is a continuous obligation, while job card renewals must occur every five years. To streamline and assist these mandated processes, States/UTs are encouraged to leverage the e-KYC feature available in the NMMS app (National Mobile Monitoring System) for both job card verification and subsequent renewals, following existing procedures,” stated the ministry.
This supportive initiative is designed to aid states in completing verifications promptly, transparently, and effectively.
With 99.67 percent of active workers’ Aadhar numbers already linked, the e-KYC feature offers a simple, trustworthy, and efficient verification method for job cards.
During the e-KYC process, the Gram Rojgar Sahayak, worksite supervisor, mate, or any other local functionary captures an image of the MGNREGA worker through the NMMS App, which is digitally verified against their Aadhar details in real-time.
The entire process for one worker is completed in under a minute.
“The ministry is dedicated to upholding transparency and accountability in the Scheme's execution at the grassroots level, ensuring that each legitimate worker receives their entitled wage employment under the Act without any interruptions,” it emphasized.
Regarding the deletion of job cards/workers, a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was issued by the Ministry on January 24, 2025.
This provides clear, standardized, and transparent guidelines for states, ensuring fairness, accountability, and the protection of workers’ interests in managing job card records.
