New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a one-day workshop for media and communication officers as a part of its strategy to foster an efficient communication approach at the grassroots level.
The workshop, held in the national capital, aims to train the media and communication personnel at the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) offices across all 28 states and 8 Union Territories. This initiative is designed to convey the poll panel’s messages to voters while helping them distinguish between political narratives and actual facts.
Inaugurated by CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the event also saw the presence of Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
This initiative is particularly important as it comes just before the election season, which is currently challenged by issues such as fake news, misinformation campaigns, and AI-generated videos. With the Bihar elections expected at the end of 2025 and significant states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam preparing for elections next year, the electoral landscape is vibrant.
The Congress party has raised allegations of ‘vote chori’ and criticized the poll panel, adding complexity to the situation. The workshop is a part of the EC’s comprehensive strategy to mitigate the ‘misformation campaign’ by political entities and counter ‘motivated’ narratives.
The election body is also concentrating on crafting a robust communication strategy to share information, combat misinformation and misleading narratives, while enhancing voter awareness through diverse channels, including social media. By equipping its media and communication division with a solid strategy, the poll authority believes it can effectively counteract negative propaganda.
Notably, the EC has recognized and commended the media's role in ensuring the seamless execution of electoral processes in today's digital age.
Moreover, voters will benefit from objective and transparent reporting, which bolsters their trust in the electoral process and enables them to discern between facts and narratives.
