Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) on Saturday, even prior to the announcement of polling dates and the initiation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming West Bengal elections.
As per an official notification from the ECI, the CAPF will be deployed in two distinct phases. The first phase is scheduled for March 1, before the poll announcement and the implementation of the model code of conduct.
The second phase will take place on March 10, when polling dates are expected to be revealed and the model code of conduct will already be in effect.
Preliminary indications suggest that the ECI may disclose the polling dates immediately following Holi.
According to the notification, a total of 480 companies will be deployed in these two initial phases, with 240 companies designated for each phase.
The initial deployment of 240 companies on March 1 will consist of 110 companies from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 55 from the Border Security Force (BSF), 21 from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 27 from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and 27 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
In the second phase on March 10, another 240 companies will be deployed, including 120 companies from CRPF, 65 from BSF, 16 from CISF, 20 from ITBP, and 19 from SSB.
The timeline for the de-induction of these 480 companies, which involves removing personnel or equipment from a designated area, will be communicated later, as per the ECI's announcement.
Additionally, the ECI has instructed the West Bengal government to collaborate with the respective CAPFs and their lead force coordinators to formulate a comprehensive deployment strategy.
The CRPF will oversee the coordination of movement and deployment, as clarified by the Commission.
