New Delhi, Dec 22 (NationPress) Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar announced that, as part of the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), assistive devices for mobility, vision, and hearing have been distributed to 7.28 lakh elderly individuals to date, according to an official statement released on Monday.
He delivered these remarks at a special event held in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, aimed at reinforcing emotional, social, and cultural connections among various generations, while promoting active and dignified ageing, as stated by the official.
The event, titled “Celebration of Intergenerational Bonds”, was organized in Biaora, Rajgarh, by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The Union Minister emphasized that senior citizens are the guardians of experience, tradition, and values, serving as an invaluable asset to the nation.
He stressed the necessity of fostering active, healthy, and dignified ageing through community-driven initiatives and intergenerational collaboration.
Kumar highlighted various significant projects initiated by the Ministry, including the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), which provides assistive devices for mobility, vision, and hearing, enabling elderly individuals to lead independent and confident lives with dignity.
He mentioned that over 7.28 lakh senior citizens nationwide have benefitted from this program.
Additionally, the Minister pointed out the enhancement of Elderline 14567, which has received over 27 lakh calls, offering support, guidance, and emergency assistance to senior citizens.
He also discussed initiatives aimed at promoting intergenerational bonding through cultural, community, and outreach programs across the country, including the celebration of Grandparents’ Day in schools.
The program sought to enhance the spirit of affection, dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect among generations. Such initiatives are vital in connecting society, preserving values and traditions, and fostering collective social consciousness, according to the statement.
The event reaffirmed the Government of India’s dedication to cultivating an inclusive and elder-friendly society by encouraging intergenerational engagement, community involvement, and active ageing.
It showcased how the experiences, wisdom, and values of senior citizens, when combined with the energy, creativity, and curiosity of younger generations, lead to a balanced, sensitive, and progressive society.
Among those present at the event were Narayan Singh Panwa, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development, Gautam Tetwal, Minister of State for Skill Development and Employment (Independent Charge), and Rodmal Nagar, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajgarh, along with senior government officials, representatives from social organizations, a large audience of students, and family members, including grandparents.
