Why Did the EPS Criticize the DMK Government Over the Last-Minute TNPSC Group II Exam Postponement?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 8 (NationPress) The sudden delay of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group II and IIA main examinations on Sunday caused significant confusion throughout the state and ignited a fierce political clash. Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami severely criticized the DMK government, labeling it as a display of “administrative incompetence”.
The examinations, which were set to take place at various centers across Tamil Nadu, were postponed at the last moment due to issues with hall tickets and confusion regarding the assignment of examination halls. Many candidates who had traveled from different districts arrived at their centers, only to be told the tests were canceled. In some areas, candidates had even started the examination before officials intervened.
Palaniswami described this occurrence as “unprecedented” in the TNPSC’s history, stating that postponing a crucial competitive examination on the day it was scheduled indicates an “administrative collapse” under the current administration.
“For the first time, a highly significant examination like TNPSC Group II has been postponed on the day of the exam. This single incident reveals the true state of governance under the DMK regime,” he expressed in a statement.
Emphasizing the plight of the candidates, the former Chief Minister pointed out that lakhs of young aspirants had dedicated years of preparation and substantial financial resources to take the examination. He criticized the government for blaming a “technical fault” for the lapse, arguing that it undermined the seriousness of the disruption.
Addressing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin directly, Palaniswami questioned the government’s assertions of effective governance.
“Your government cannot even conduct a single competitive examination properly. What greater evidence is required of this administration’s incompetence?” he remarked.
He also accused the DMK of failing to deliver on its 2021 electoral promise of creating 5.5 lakh jobs and urged the government to implement systemic safeguards instead of what he termed “eyewash action” against lower-level officials.
Meanwhile, TNPSC Controller of Examinations A. Shanmuga Sundaram stated that the confusion stemmed from incorrect assignment of examination halls at several centers in Chennai, including Presidency College and Nandanam Government Arts College.
“This is a significant error, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused. To prevent panic among candidates, we have decided to cancel today’s sessions across the state,” he stated.
New dates for the examinations are anticipated to be announced soon.
