Should Terrorists, OGWs and Supporters be Treated Equally? J&K L-G Speaks
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed on Thursday that armed terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), supporters, and individuals threatening ordinary citizens should all face equivalent consequences.
While addressing the 'Viksit Bharat-Security Dimensions' UT-level conference in Jammu, the Lt Governor emphasized that there should be no differentiation in actions taken against terrorists and those who assist or support them.
Sinha chaired the UT-level conference, which was organized similarly to the annual DGPs/IGPs conference.
In his speech, he highlighted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the UT-level security conference would act as a center for discussion and cooperation to formulate a comprehensive approach to combat terrorism in all its forms.
He remarked that during the earlier DGPs/IGPs conference held in Raipur this year, extensive discussions were held on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions’, showcasing the Government of India’s commitment to revamping policing institutions to adapt to the evolving security landscape.
The Lt Governor emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts against terrorists, their backers, and ideologues to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem and eradicate safe havens.
“The significant security advancements made since 2019 must be safeguarded, and every terrorist and their supporter operating in the Valley, hills, forests, or villages must be neutralized,” Sinha stated.
He mentioned that over the last six years, the security framework has been notably strengthened, and the collective efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, intelligence agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have resulted in a marked reduction in terrorist violence, the number of active terrorists, and recruitment.
“Armed terrorists, their supporters, OGWs, and those intimidating the general populace must be treated uniformly. We must ensure they face severe repercussions for their actions,” asserted the Lt Governor.
He also elaborated on strategies to counter emerging threats, improve intelligence capabilities, and establish a next-generation security framework to tackle contemporary challenges.
“The security threat landscape has significantly transformed in recent years. We need to transition from reactive to proactive security measures and leverage advanced tools such as artificial intelligence to combat terrorism, terror financing, radicalization, and narco-terrorism,” Sinha remarked.
The one-day UT-level security conference was attended by senior officials from the J&K Police, intelligence agencies, civil administration, and CAPFs.
