Did Event Organiser Tanay Shastri Get Bail in Mimi Chakraborty Harassment Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 7 (NationPress) A district court has granted bail to Tanay Shastri, an event organiser, in the case concerning the harassment of Mimi Chakraborty, a renowned Bengali actress and former MP of the Trinamool Congress.
Despite the bail, the judge has mandated an additional four days of judicial custody for Shastri and his two associates for allegedly obstructing police duties during the investigation. Consequently, Shastri remains in custody temporarily.
On January 25, Mimi Chakraborty attended a social event in Nayagopalganj, located in Bongaon within the North 24 Parganas district. During this event, Tanay Shastri, identified as one of the club's officials, reportedly harassed her, leading to her being forced off the stage and causing a disruption in the music performance as a result of her late arrival.
In the aftermath, Mimi lodged a formal complaint at the Bongaon police station.
On January 29, while investigating the allegations, police encountered resistance from Shastri and his associates, resulting in their arrest on charges of obstructing police work.
They were subsequently presented in court on January 30, where the police requested a seven-day custody extension. However, the judge only approved four days. After this period concluded, they were again brought before the court on February 3, where further custody was sought, alongside new charges of molestation against Shastri. His bail request was denied, and the judge extended judicial custody again while also ordering the recording of Mimi Chakraborty's confidential statement, which has since been completed.
After the latest court appearance, Tanay has received bail relating to the harassment case against Mimi, but he remains in judicial custody until February 11 concerning the obstruction of police investigation.
