Did Event Organiser Tanay Shastri Serve a Defamation Notice to Ex-Trinamool MP Mimi Chakraborty?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) Event organiser Tanay Shastri, who is embroiled in a harassment case, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty.
On Thursday, Shastri revealed that a legal notice has been dispatched to Chakraborty, demanding a payment of Rs 20 lakh as compensation or face legal consequences.
Chakraborty has yet to make any official comment regarding the situation.
Shastri stated to local reporters, "Mimi Chakraborty was compensated Rs 2 lakh 65 thousand to participate in our event. I am requesting her to return the funds as she failed to arrive on time. Moreover, she has unjustly defamed my character. She took me to court and has caused significant damage to my reputation."
He further commented, "I have demanded Rs 20 lakh as a settlement from the actress. If she does not apologize or pay, I will proceed with filing the defamation case in the next few days. This is only the beginning; I will ensure it is resolved."
Last month, Chakraborty was scheduled to perform at an event coordinated by Shastri in Bongaon, located in the North 24 Parganas district. She was the final performer of the evening.
Mimi asserted that Shastri removed her from the stage as it was past midnight and he lacked permission to extend the event. She filed a police complaint against him for alleged harassment. In retaliation, Tanay lodged a counter-complaint, alleging that Chakraborty did not adhere to the scheduled performance time and that he had politely asked her to vacate the stage without any harassment.
However, during the police investigation, Shastri reportedly obstructed the officers.
He, along with two associates, was apprehended for harassing Mimi and hindering the police inquiry.
A case was lodged against him under a non-bailable clause. After spending over a week in judicial custody, he was granted bail on February 11. With the defamation notice now issued to Mimi Chakraborty, another legal confrontation appears imminent.
