Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a significant development, police investigating actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty's harassment complaint at a Bongaon event in the North 24 Parganas district have arrested Tanay Shastri and two of his associates. The arrests occurred after a confrontation at Shastri's residence when he attempted to hinder the police team, according to officials.
Mimi Chakraborty is presently engaged in promoting her latest movie, "Bhanupriya Bhuter Hotel". She has not yet issued any formal statement regarding the recent developments.
The incident, which sparked controversy, unfolded on Sunday night. During her performance in the Nayagopalganj area of Bongaon, the actress claimed she faced harassment on stage.
"While I was performing, the event organizer, Tanay Shastri, abruptly approached the stage and instructed me to leave. I complied without dispute, despite not completing my performance. His demeanor was extremely arrogant," she recounted.
Subsequently, she submitted a written complaint to the local police via email, asserting that this disrespect was a result of her refusal to be a guest at Shastri's home, unlike other performers. The situation has remained tense since Monday.
In contrast, the event organizer has dismissed the allegations as entirely unfounded. Shastri stated that Mimi Chakraborty was scheduled to arrive at 10:30 p.m. but arrived nearly an hour and a half late, at 11:45 p.m. He claimed that despite her tardiness, she was treated with respect and escorted on stage, disputing her claims.
"I bear no responsibility. Mimi was late, and we had to adhere to the event schedule. We treated her with utmost fairness," he maintained.
However, when police sought to investigate further and approached Shastri's residence, he obstructed their efforts, leading to his arrest along with two associates.
