An officer of the SDPO level is currently probing the matter.
It has come to light that the celebrated singer Lagnajita performed at an event held by South Point Public School in the Bhagwanpur police jurisdiction on Saturday. During her performance, she alleged that she faced harassment.
Lagnajita reported that she performed the song 'Jago Ma' from the film 'Devi Chaudhurani'. Shortly after, a man from the audience climbed onto the stage and attempted to assault her. Fortunately, other attendees intervened and removed the individual before the situation escalated. Following this incident, she ceased her performance.
She further claimed that the school proprietor, Mehboob Mallick, treated her disrespectfully and verbally abused her after she declined to continue performing. Within 24 hours of the incident, the police arrested the main suspect, Mehboob, based on her complaint. He is a resident of Beludia village in the Bhagwanpur area.
Afterward, Lagnajita visited the Bhagwanpur police station to narrate the details of the incident to the officer in charge. The police requested her to file a general diary entry, which she complied with.
However, questions arose regarding the police's failure to file a formal FIR following such a serious occurrence. The acting SP assured that all claims would undergo a thorough investigation.
“We aim to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” stated the senior police official.
As a result, the district police have initiated a departmental inquiry against the officer in charge of Bhagwanpur police station concerning this incident.
