Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, 18 August positioned Maharashtra as the central anchor for translating the India–US bilateral partnership into tangible economic outcomes, calling on both nations to move decisively from strategic alignment toward direct economic integration. Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) National Convention in Mumbai, Fadnavis framed the relationship as one of the defining global partnerships of the 21st century.

The Core Pitch

'The next chapter of India–US partnership must move from strategic convergence to economic execution,' Chief Minister Fadnavis said, underlining Maharashtra's ambition to serve not merely as a regional hub but as a global launchpad combining talent, connectivity, and industrial infrastructure.

He identified technology as the strongest foundation of future ties and reiterated the state's intent to participate across the full spectrum of digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and innovation-led execution. He stressed that investments must translate directly into jobs and opportunities for the state's youth.

Supply Chain Realignment and Manufacturing Opportunity

Fadnavis argued that ongoing global supply chain disruptions offer India — and Maharashtra in particular — a historic window to establish trusted hubs for high-tech manufacturing, global capability centres (GCCs), and data infrastructure. 'The bilateral relationship is increasingly defined by co-investment, co-innovation, and co-development. Given recent global disruptions, India presents a historic opportunity to build resilient, trusted supply chains for global markets,' he noted.

This comes amid a broader global shift away from single-source manufacturing dependencies, with several US corporations actively scouting alternative production bases across South and Southeast Asia. Maharashtra, with its established industrial corridors and port connectivity, is positioning itself as a frontrunner in this realignment.

Healthcare, Medicity, and the Cleveland Clinic Anchor

Pointing to the state's pharmaceutical base, the Chief Minister highlighted the 165-acre Medicity project, which features the Cleveland Clinic as its anchor partner, as a flagship initiative aimed at turning Maharashtra into a global medical tourism destination. The project represents one of the most significant US–India healthcare collaborations currently under development in the country.

Women Leaders and Inclusive Growth

Noting the convention's focus on women leaders, Fadnavis stressed that long-term economic growth is impossible without full participation, describing women as vital CEOs, investors, and drivers of enterprise. The convention brought together key industry leaders and diplomats, including US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, to establish actionable roadmaps across high-growth sectors such as digital technology, critical manufacturing, and healthcare infrastructure.

Bilateral Talks with US Ambassador Gor

On the sidelines of the convention, Chief Minister Fadnavis held a separate discussion with US Ambassador Sergio Gor, focusing on channelling US investments into semiconductors, data centres, higher education, and advanced technology sectors. Fadnavis subsequently posted on social media platform X: 'Delighted to welcome the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, in Mumbai today. We had a productive discussion on strengthening India-US ties and exploring opportunities for greater collaboration.'

With Maharashtra already home to the largest concentration of GCCs in India and a deep pharmaceutical manufacturing base, the state's pitch to become the execution engine of the Indo-US partnership is backed by existing infrastructure — though translating convention-floor ambition into signed investments will be the real test.
