New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) The government has identified and flagged fake accounts on X impersonating two esteemed Indian military officers -- Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi -- urging the public to avoid interacting with or sharing content from these fraudulent profiles.

A widely shared counterfeit X account claiming to be Wing Commander Vyomika Singh operates under the handle "@WingVyomikStan" and falsely describes itself as: “Proudly serving in the skies, defending the nation with Air Force. Duty, Honor.”

This account falsely boasts about having 28,000 followers, misleadingly presenting itself as her verified presence on the platform.

In a similar vein, another bogus X profile impersonates Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, inaccurately portraying her as “the first woman to lead the multi-national military Exercise Force 18.”

These deceptive accounts have gained popularity amid growing public interest in the armed forces following India's launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7.

The Press Information Bureau's fact-checking unit has confirmed that there is no official X presence for either Wing Commander Vyomika Singh or Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

“There is NO official X handle for Wg. Cdr. Vyomika Singh & Col. Sofiya Qureshi. Both of these accounts are fraudulent. Please remain vigilant and depend solely on official sources for trustworthy information,” stated the government.

Both officers have recently drawn public attention due to their involvement in media briefings concerning Operation Sindoor.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who spoke to the media for the first time on May 7 following the launch of Operation Sindoor, is originally from Gujarat. She holds a postgraduate degree in biochemistry and was commissioned through the Officers Training Academy. Her grandfather also served in the Indian Army. Colonel Qureshi has made history as the first woman officer to command an Indian Army contingent at a multinational exercise -- Force 18.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, a pilot in the Indian Air Force, has operated Cheetah and Chetak helicopters in some of the country’s most challenging environments. Her active role and frequent media appearances highlight the increasing participation of women in India's defense forces.
