Patna, Feb 13 (NationPress) Amitabh Kumar Das, a former IPS officer, found himself in the custody of Patna Police on Friday for purportedly disseminating misleading information and employing abusive language on social media concerning the dubious death of a NEET aspirant in the state capital.

As per official reports, action was initiated under Case No. 44/26 filed at Chitragupt Nagar police station.

This case pertains to the death of a student who was preparing for NEET at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel, an incident that has ignited considerable public concern and dialogue.

Authorities accused Amitabh Kumar Das of persistently posting inappropriate and offensive material on various social media platforms related to this sensitive case, while also circulating unverified and misleading information that could disrupt public order and interfere with the ongoing inquiry.

A team from Patna Police carried out a search at Das’s residence in Pataliputra on Friday evening, where officials reportedly scrutinized digital devices and documents for several hours.

The operation garnered attention within the apartment complex due to the extensive police presence.

After the search, Amitabh Das was taken into custody and transported to the police station for further interrogation.

During his apprehension, Das appeared visibly upset and accused the government of intentionally framing him.

He asserted to the media that the search was politically driven and claimed that the police attempted to plant incriminating evidence in his home to unjustly implicate him in serious accusations.

Police officials stated that the former IPS officer’s online activity was swaying public opinion regarding the case and could pose a threat to law and order.

They emphasized that disseminating misinformation during an active investigation is a grave issue, necessitating legal action.

The suspicious death at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel remains under scrutiny, with police urging the public to refrain from spreading rumors or unverified claims.

The NEET aspirant was discovered unconscious at the hostel in the Chitragupt Nagar area on January 6 and tragically succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital on January 11.
