Amaravati, May 19 (NationPress) - In a significant legal development, a court in Mangalagiri has placed YSR Congress Party leader and former MP Nandigam Suresh in judicial custody for 14 days due to allegations of assaulting a member of the Telugu Desam Party.

Nandigam Suresh was apprehended by authorities on Sunday and subsequently brought before the court. Following the court's decision, he was transferred to Guntur Jail until June 2.

Prior to his court appearance, Suresh underwent a medical examination at a government hospital in Mangalagiri.

The police had implemented extensive security measures at the courthouse, evacuating the premises upon Suresh's arrival.

A substantial crowd of his supporters assembled at the courthouse, prompting police to disperse them.

Suresh's arrest stemmed from an incident on Saturday night in Uddandarayunipalem village, located in the Amaravati capital region. A complainant named Raju claimed that Suresh, along with his brother Prabhudas and several relatives, assaulted him following a dispute with a driver of a fast-moving vehicle that nearly struck him. Suresh and his associates allegedly intervened and physically attacked Raju.

The assault intensified when they forcibly took Raju to Suresh's residence, where he was assaulted again. Raju suffered severe injuries and was subsequently admitted to AIIMS Mangalagiri.

Acting on a complaint filed by Raju's wife, Lakshmi, the police initiated a case against Suresh and his accomplices. While Suresh was arrested on Sunday, authorities are actively searching for Prabhudas and the other suspects.

Suresh's wife, Latha, protested at the Thullur police station, claiming her husband's arrest was unjust.

This is not Suresh's first encounter with the law; he previously spent nearly three months in police custody concerning a series of charges. Last October, he was arrested in connection with the murder of a woman, and he was also implicated in an attack on TDP headquarters during the YSRCP's time in power.
