Vijayawada, Feb 14 (NationPress) A local court has ordered that YSR Congress Party leader and former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan be held in judicial custody for a period of 14 days in connection with a kidnapping and SC/ST Atrocity case.

Vamsi Mohan was apprehended in Hyderabad by a police team and subsequently transported to Vijayawada on Thursday. He faced a judge after being interrogated for over eight hours.

Following the presentation of arguments from both parties, the judge issued his ruling at 2:30 a.m.

Additionally, Vamsi Mohan's associates, A. Shivarama Krishna Prasad and Nimma Lakshmipati, were also placed in judicial custody.

They were later relocated to the district jail in Vijayawada.

A case has been registered against Vamsi and others under sections 140 (1) (kidnap), 308, 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 for allegedly abducting a computer operator from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office in Gannavaram.

The police's remand report indicated that Vamsi played a significant role in intimidating the computer operator Satyavardhan, who complied with the instructions of Vamsi’s aides due to threats to his life.

Moreover, the report noted that Vamsi has a criminal history and is currently facing 16 criminal charges.

A team from Patamata Police Station apprehended the former Gannavaram MLA at his residence in the Raidurgam area of Hyderabad on Thursday and transported him to Vijayawada.

He is also designated as accused number 71 in a case regarding an attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram during 2023, while the YSRCP was in power.

Satyavardhan, the complainant in the TDP office attack case, recently testified before a special court handling SC/ST Atrocity cases, stating that he has no involvement in the case.

Afterward, Satyavardhan's family reported to the police that he had been kidnapped, threatened, and coerced into providing false testimony in the TDP office attack case. In response to their complaint, police initiated a case against Vamsi Mohan and others.

Vamsi Mohan has also faced allegations in various other cases following the TDP-led coalition's rise to power in June of last year.

In December of the previous year, 11 individuals, including Vamsi Mohan's personal aide, were apprehended in connection with the attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram.

The YSRCP leader is accused of inciting his supporters to vandalize the TDP office in his constituency in the NTR district in February 2023 while the YSRCP was in command.

This incident transpired after confrontations between TDP and YSRCP activists, allegedly due to disparaging remarks made by Vamsi against the then opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh.

Vamsi transitioned from TDP to YSRCP in 2020 and has been a vocal critic of the TDP and its national president, Chandrababu Naidu.

Following the TDP coalition's ascension to power in June, Vamsi's residence was reportedly attacked by TDP supporters.

Vamsi faced defeat in the Gannavaram Assembly constituency. He was elected from the same seat as a TDP candidate in 2019 but later defected to YSRCP.
