Hyderabad, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have taken into custody YSR Congress Party leader and former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan on Thursday in connection with a kidnapping and SC/ST atrocity case.
A team from Patamata Police Station apprehended the ex-Gannavaram MLA at his residence in Raidurgam and transported him to Vijayawada.
A case has been registered against Vamsi under sections 140 (1), 308, 351 (3) r/w 3 (5) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Additionally, he is identified as accused number 71 in the case concerning the assault on the TDP office at Gannavaram in 2023 during the time when YSRCP was in power.
It is alleged that the YSRCP leader kidnapped a man named Satyavardhan, who worked as a computer operator at the TDP office in Gannavaram.
Satyavardhan, who is the complainant in the attack case on the TDP office, recently presented himself before a special court focused on SC/ST Atrocities cases, submitting an affidavit claiming no involvement in the incident.
Subsequently, Satyavardhan reported to the police that he was threatened and coerced into providing a false statement regarding the TDP office attack. Acting on his allegations, police initiated a case against Vamsi Mohan.
Vamsi Mohan is also facing accusations in several other cases that were filed following the rise of the TDP-led coalition to power in June of last year.
In December, 11 individuals, including a personal aide of Vamsi Mohan, were arrested in connection with the TDP office attack incident in Gannavaram.
The YSRCP leader is accused of encouraging his followers to vandalize the TDP office in his constituency located in the NTR district in February 2023 when YSRCP was in control.
The TDP office in Gannavaram was reportedly desecrated, and vehicles belonging to TDP leaders were damaged by alleged YSRCP activists and Vamsi's supporters.
Numerous individuals were observed damaging the opposition party's office and the cars parked nearby. Two vehicles were also set ablaze by the offenders.
This event unfolded after alleged clashes between TDP and YSRCP members over disparaging remarks made by Vamsi against the former leader of opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh.
Vamsi transitioned from TDP to YSRCP in 2020 and has since been a vocal opponent of the TDP and its national president, Chandrababu Naidu.
Following the establishment of the TDP-led coalition in June, Vamsi's residence was reportedly attacked by TDP supporters.
Vamsi faced defeat in the Gannavaram Assembly constituency election. He had previously won from the same seat as a TDP candidate in 2019 but later switched allegiance to YSRCP.
