Vijayawada, Feb 18 (NationPress) YSR Congress Party President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed on Tuesday that there is a complete breakdown of law and order in the state, asserting that the incarceration of his party leader and former MLA Vallabhneni Vamsi in a fabricated case serves as evidence of this.
Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Vamsi at the Vijayawada sub-jail, where he is being held in connection with a kidnapping and SC/ST Act case.
The YSRCP President expressed to reporters following his visit that the TDP-led coalition government has orchestrated false allegations against Vamsi, highlighting the total collapse of law and order under the current administration.
He further accused the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and TDP leader Pattabhi of instigating Vamsi, culminating in an attack on the TDP’s Gannavaram office.
According to Jagan, Vamsi was not implicated in the original case related to the attack; however, after the TDP-led government took office, the case was reopened. He claimed that Satyavardhan, an employee at the TDP office, affirmed Vamsi's non-involvement in the attack, yet the government has pursued a politically motivated false case of kidnapping and threatening Satyavardhan.
Jagan Mohan Reddy noted that at least 44 YSRCP leaders have faced fabricated charges since the coalition government assumed power in June of the previous year.
Extensive security measures were implemented during Jagan's visit to the sub-jail, with police enforcing prohibitory orders around the facility to ensure peace.
A significant number of YSRCP leaders, supporters, and workers gathered outside the sub-jail during the former Chief Minister’s visit.
The Andhra Pradesh Police apprehended Vamsi at his residence in Hyderabad on February 13. Subsequently, a court in Vijayawada placed him and his associates Shivarama Krishna Prasad and Lakshmipathy in judicial custody for 14 days.
Vamsi has been accused of allegedly kidnapping and threatening Satyavardhan, a computer operator at the TDP office in Gannavaram, who filed a complaint regarding the TDP office attack that took place in February 2023.
Vamsi and his associates, implicated in the TDP office attack case, purportedly kidnapped Satyavardhan and coerced him to retract his complaint.
A case has been registered against Vamsi and others under sections 140 (1) (kidnapping), 308, 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Notably, Vamsi switched allegiance from the TDP to the YSRCP in 2020 and has since been a vocal critic of the TDP and its leader Chandrababu Naidu.
