Hyderabad, Feb 15 (NationPress) In a significant escalation of their investigation into the kidnapping and SC/ST atrocity allegations against YSR Congress Party leader and former MLA Vallabhneni Vamsi, the Andhra Pradesh Police executed searches at his domicile in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The police personnel combed through Vamsi's residence located in the Raidurgam area.
They were reportedly on the lookout for the former MLA's mobile device, which is anticipated to yield crucial evidence pertinent to the case.
When Vamsi was apprehended at his home in Hyderabad on February 13, law enforcement did not recover his phone. Authorities have since approached the SC/ST Special Court in Vijayawada, seeking judicial approval to confiscate Vamsi's phone. Investigators are optimistic that data from the device will assist in constructing a robust case against him.
On February 13, the police also seized the phone belonging to Vamsi's associate and dispatched it to a forensic laboratory.
The investigation team believes that call records from Vamsi's phone could aid in apprehending other suspects involved in the case.
A dedicated task force is currently pursuing absconding suspects linked to the incident.
The Vijayawada court on Friday remanded Vamsi along with his associates Shivarama Krishna Prasad and Lakshmipathy to judicial custody for a period of 14 days. The accused were subsequently placed in Vijayawada district jail.
The Patamata Police detained Vamsi in Hyderabad and transported him to Vijayawada by road on Thursday.
He faces accusations of allegedly kidnapping and intimidating the complainant M. Satyavardhan, a computer operator at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office in Gannavaram, who is the complainant in a TDP office attack incident that transpired in February 2023.
Vamsi and his associates, allegedly implicated in the TDP office attack, reportedly abducted Satyavardhan and coerced him into retracting the case.
A case has been filed against Vamsi and others under sections of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including 140 (1) (kidnapping), 308, 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Vamsi transitioned from the TDP to the YSRCP in 2020 and has since been a vocal adversary of the TDP and its national leader N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Following the TDP-led coalition's rise to power in June of the previous year, Vamsi's home was reportedly assaulted by presumed TDP supporters.
Vamsi faced defeat in the Gannavaram Assembly constituency. He was elected from the same constituency in 2019 as a TDP candidate but subsequently switched allegiance to YSRCP.
