Gurugram: A unit from the Gurugram police at the Sector-37 station has taken into custody four individuals accused of attacking and verbally abusing a group of motorcycle riders on the Dwarka Expressway, according to police reports.
The suspects have been named as Bhanu Sharma (33), Deepak Singh (24), and Rajat Singh (24), all from Uttam Nagar, Delhi, along with Pragya Sharma (23), who resides in Mohan Garden, Delhi.
Station House Officer (SHO) Shahid Ahmed led a police team that apprehended the suspects near the Kherki Daula toll plaza on Tuesday, as stated by police officials.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the accused arrived in an SUV for a joyride. While navigating the road, there was some form of communication between the motorcycle riders and the accused through hand signals. Subsequently, the situation escalated, leading to the assault. Bhanu operates a gym in Delhi, while Deepak is a trainer at the same establishment. Pragya leases a cricket field, and Rajat is currently unemployed. The police are conducting thorough interrogations of the suspects,” said Sandeep Kumar, a spokesperson for Gurugram police.
Footage of the incident circulated widely online, showing a man in a t-shirt and yellow shorts vandalizing a sports bike in plain view on the Dwarka Expressway.
A case has been filed under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against the suspects at the Sector-37 police station in Gurugram on Sunday.
The victim, Hardik Sharma, residing in Sector-46, Gurugram, reported to the police that early Sunday morning, he ventured out for breakfast with friends and encountered a group of 11 companions near Cyber City (Ambience Area).
“As we were riding slowly towards the Manesar toll, a black Scorpio with the plate number DL4CBE1750 began driving erratically and attempted to provoke us around 7:20 a.m. on Sunday. We pulled over under the Dwarka Expressway to allow them to pass, but they halted their SUV in front of us. Four men inside appeared heavily intoxicated and began to attack us and damage our motorcycles,” the victim recounted to the police. He also noted that the entire incident was captured on video and in photographs. They attempted to strike my companions, and when I intervened, I was struck on the head with an iron baseball bat.
“I survived due to my helmet. Afterward, they completely wrecked my bike when they noticed a crowd gathering. All four then entered their SUV and fled while threatening me with severe repercussions,” the victim asserted.
“We narrowly escaped with our lives. They were all inebriated; two assaulted us, while the others joined them. We left the area as they started demolishing our valuable sports bike. I was hit with an iron baseball bat and suffered a fracture in my hand. We have provided the police with the vehicle registration number for necessary action against them,” the complainant added.
