Ahmedabad, Nov 23 (NationPress) Gandhidham, which has recently transitioned from a municipality to a municipal corporation, is on the brink of significant urban transformation. This was announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during his inaugural visit to the city following its elevation to new civic status, where he unveiled development projects worth Rs 176 crore.

The initiatives encompass a modern fire station, a state-of-the-art library, a landmark entry gate, improved gardens, upgraded roads, and enhanced water and drainage systems, aimed at cultivating a new identity for this industrial hub and reshaping its urban environment.

The most noteworthy project involves the redevelopment of the corridor from Gopalpuri Gate to Sarvodaya Cricket Ground, transforming it into an Iconic Gaurav Path, symbolizing Gandhidham's economic and cultural importance in the Kutch region.

During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that Gandhidham, often referred to as the “economic capital of Kutch” and a pivotal industrial center in Gujarat, is on a path to achieve “new heights of development” in line with the state government's urban vision.

The Prime Minister's strategy of viewing urbanization as an opportunity rather than a challenge has significantly influenced the growth trajectory of Gujarat's cities, the Chief Minister stated.

He emphasized that the urban development budget has seen a 40 percent increase this year, with Rs 30,000 crore allocated for comprehensive city development.

“The funds allocated for Gandhidham will bolster the Prime Minister's vision of enhanced living standards and inclusive growth,” he remarked.

During his visit, Chief Minister Patel also paid homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Oslo Circle and inaugurated the refurbished Ambedkar statue. Additionally, he dedicated the newly constructed flyover named 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bridge' alongside associated urban facilities, including circle development and parking spaces.

Speaking to the public at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Auditorium in Gopalpuri, the Chief Minister congratulated the residents on attaining municipal corporation status.

“Prior to this upgrade, Gandhidham's annual budget stood at Rs 110 crore. Post upgradation, it has surged sixfold to Rs 608 crore,” he remarked.

He pointed out that Rs 255 crore has already been earmarked for Gandhidham under various urban development schemes over the last three years.

CM Patel stressed that the newly initiated ventures epitomize true holistic development—from essential services like roads, water supply, drainage, and public parks to advanced civic infrastructure such as a model fire station and a smart library.

“Gujarat's urban centers have set a benchmark for the nation regarding the scale and pace of development,” he noted, adding that Prime Minister Modi has translated “the politics of development into tangible outcomes.”

Reflecting on PM Modi's leadership in reconstructing Kutch after the 2001 earthquake, the Chief Minister asserted that today, Gujarat excels in trade, industry, employment, education, and healthcare due to the robust foundations established during that period.

He also underscored the long-term vision for nurturing cities as future-ready growth hubs. As part of this initiative, the state is organizing regional Vibrant conferences to stimulate investments in local industries.

The forthcoming Saurashtra–Kutch Regional Vibrant Conference in Rajkot is anticipated to play a crucial role in attracting large-scale investments and reinforcing the Kutch industrial ecosystem.

Encouraging citizens to participate in the creation of sustainable, future-ready cities, the Chief Minister expressed, “With the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas, we must ensure Gandhidham leads the charge in developing the cities of tomorrow.”

The Chief Minister was warmly received by residents throughout Gandhidham from the airport to Gopalpuri, where communities celebrated his arrival with traditional drums and a warm welcome. Citizens from diverse social groups joined in, acknowledging the government’s commitment to inclusive development.

Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education Trikamji Chhanga, addressing the gathering, stated that Gandhidham, which emerged from the challenges of Partition, has evolved into one of India’s key centers for economic and port-led activities.

He remarked that the municipal corporation status will facilitate planned expansion and expedite development. He added that Prime Minister Modi's enduring emotional connection and commitment to Kutch continue to manifest in enhanced infrastructure across water, roads, and other vital sectors under the current administration.
