Giriraj Singh Critiques Rahul Gandhi on TMC Alliance in 2024 Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In a recent statement from New Delhi on April 15, Union Minister Giriraj Singh fiercely criticized the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, labeling him as “opportunistic” and accusing him of collaborating with political adversaries for the sake of power. Singh defended the BJP's approach to governance issues in West Bengal.
In response to Rahul Gandhi’s recent outreach efforts in West Bengal, where the LoP claimed that the mismanagement by the Trinamool Congress-led government had facilitated the BJP's rise in the state, Singh reminded everyone that the Congress had previously formed an alliance with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party during the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to IANS, he noted, “It is widely recognized. Rahul Gandhi came to this realization rather late, having been seen alongside Mamata Banerjee in her pursuit for the Prime Ministerial position. These individuals are opportunists. The Bharatiya Janata Party has been combating misgovernance in Bihar since the 1990s, just as it is now challenging Mamata Banerjee’s failures, including issues like jungle raj, criminal protection, and the shielding of Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingya Muslims. The state grapples with unemployment, poverty, corruption, and lawlessness.”
Singh’s comments come amidst a growing political discourse surrounding governance, unemployment, and constitutional values in West Bengal, where both the ruling TMC and opposition parties have escalated their campaign rhetoric.
Earlier on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi had launched a vigorous two-pronged attack during election rallies in Raiganj and Malda, accusing the BJP and the RSS of undermining the Constitution with what he termed “hate-filled thinking,” while also criticizing the TMC government for its failure to address unemployment.
Gandhi asserted that the state government had not fulfilled its employment commitments, stating, “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee pledged jobs for five lakh individuals, yet 84 lakh youths have sought unemployment benefits.”
He further alleged that the BJP and RSS were engaged in “vote theft” and were compromising democratic institutions, escalating the already charged political atmosphere in the region as elections approach.
This confrontation underscores the mounting political tensions between the ruling BJP at the national level and opposition parties as the West Bengal elections draw near.
The polls are scheduled for two phases on April 23 and April 29, 2026, with vote counting and result announcements taking place on May 4, 2026. The entire electoral process is expected to wrap up by May 6, 2026.
