New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) Emphasizing the government’s dedication to uplifting marginalized communities, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar honored approximately 1,500 exemplary students from Class 12 and Class 10 who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories.
Virendra Kumar, who also chairs the Dr Ambedkar Foundation, highlighted the pivotal role of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in promoting education and social justice. He showcased various government initiatives aimed at SC and ST communities, including scholarships, fellowships, and welfare programs.
This award ceremony, hosted by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation, served to recognize outstanding students who achieved high scores in Class 10 and Class 12 examinations conducted by accredited State and Central Boards.
The awards considered performance from 29 State and Central Boards and Councils for the academic years 2021-22 and 2022-23.
A total of 367 students from Class 10 received awards, with 22 achieving the top positions, while 563 Class 12 students were recognized, including 49 toppers from the session 2021-22.
For the 2022-23 academic year, awards were given to 198 Class 10 students, among whom 17 were toppers, and 362 Class 12 students, with 29 ranking at the top.
The Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award Scheme awarded the top three SC and ST students from each recognized category for secondary and senior secondary education.
Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale and B.L. Verma praised the awardees' accomplishments and reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality education for all, especially marginalized groups.
Athawale encouraged students to uphold the values of equality, fraternity, dignity, and social justice as propagated by Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar.
