Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, March 24 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, reassured residents on Tuesday that there is an ample supply of petrol and diesel throughout the state. He urged citizens to refrain from forming lines at fuel stations, following a wave of panic buying that caused significant congestion in various cities.
During an event in Gandhinagar, where he initiated the ‘Sugam Digital Gujarat’ program, Patel emphasized the availability of sufficient fuel stocks and called for a sense of calm among the public. “There is plenty of petrol and diesel available in the state,” he stated, cautioning against being swayed by unfounded rumors or anxiety.
Despite ongoing global circumstances, he assured that supply remains stable and that “there is no need to create unnecessary queues,” promising that “everyone will receive what they need.”
The Chief Minister also noted that both the Central and State governments are actively collaborating to maintain a steady supply of cooking gas.
In reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he remarked: "Efforts are being undertaken to ensure that citizens do not encounter any hardships, and the state government is ensuring adequate distribution."
These comments followed reports of long lines at petrol stations in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, which were observed on Monday.
In several locations, waiting times extended for hours, and traffic jams were reported, although officials insisted that the supply remained consistent.
The surge in demand was linked to panic buying fueled by misinformation and temporary disruptions at certain outlets, including issues related to payment system changes for dealers and delays in tanker deliveries.
Government and industry representatives reiterated that there was no real shortage and that supply chains are operating smoothly.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also urged the public to stay calm, confirming that there are sufficient petrol and diesel supplies available. “There’s no reason for citizens to panic over rumors. Fuel hoarding is unnecessary,” he added, noting that the Chief Minister is continuously monitoring the situation to ensure a seamless supply.
Officials stated that ongoing surveillance is in place to guarantee that all petrol stations receive fuel regularly and that any technical or logistical challenges would be addressed swiftly.
Authorities have also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and urged the public to depend on official communications as the situation normalizes.
