Gujarat Government Assures Fuel Supply Stabilization Amid Temporary Disruptions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar, March 23 (NationPress) Officials indicated on Monday that fuel supply in various regions of Gujarat is set to stabilize within one to two days. The state government and oil corporations have reassured the public that there is no overall shortage of petrol and diesel.
This reassurance follows recent concerns regarding availability, which resulted in long queues at certain petrol stations. Dealers attributed these temporary disruptions to operational issues rather than a systemic shortfall.
Tansukh Parmar, the Treasurer of the Federation of Gujarat Petroleum Dealers Association, clarified that the recent challenges arose from financial and technical constraints. He noted, "Companies have suddenly withdrawn the credit limits that were previously accessible to all dealers, and financial capacities vary among them. Furthermore, technical difficulties on Friday and throughout the weekend led to low petrol and diesel stocks at several outlets. However, we anticipate that fuel supply will return to normal within the next couple of days."
In addition, the state government, along with the Indian Oil Corporation and petroleum dealers, has confirmed the presence of adequate fuel stocks throughout the state, urging citizens to remain calm and avoid relying on unverified information.
Mona Khandhar, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, emphasized that all petrol pumps possess sufficient stock to meet demand. "The state maintains an ample buffer stock of fuel. Citizens need not queue or panic," she stated, adding that reports of shortages in certain areas are mere rumors.
Khandhar also warned of strict legal repercussions for any dealer found keeping pumps closed without justification or causing public inconvenience.
Sanjeev Behera, the State Nodal Officer and Executive Director at Indian Oil Corporation, assured that the supply remains stable at the infrastructure level. "All petrol stations in Gujarat have adequate stock. Our depots and terminals also maintain sufficient inventory. There is no cause for panic; I encourage citizens to visit petrol pumps as needed, but there is no necessity for long queues," he advised.
The Petroleum Dealers Association of India mentioned that oil companies have extended supply hours and boosted stock levels, advising the public to avoid overcrowding petrol stations due to misleading social media messages.
Localized disruptions were noted in areas of Ahmedabad, including Helmet Circle, Memnagar, Shivranjani, and Bopal, where some stations experienced low stock due to the withdrawal of credit facilities and technical difficulties. However, authorities and industry representatives have assured that these disruptions are temporary and that supply is being restored.
