IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans Face Tough Decisions on Key Players, Says Bangar
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 21 (NationPress) The Gujarat Titans face a challenging task in determining their squad lineup for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, given their strong roster. Shubman Gill leads a team that must make crucial decisions about two significant players, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia. Both all-rounders possess the capability to bolster the batting during critical death overs.
In a discussion on JioHotstar's 'Game Plan – Know Your Team', JioStar analyst Sanjay Bangar elaborated on how the Gujarat Titans might strategize for IPL 2026:
“GT has consistently supported the players they originally selected. They have remained loyal to both Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia. Washington Sundar has also been given a role in T20, which involves not just bowling but batting in crucial positions, potentially at number four. I anticipate a similar batting-focused role for Sundar. We hope Shahrukh Khan justifies the trust the GT management has placed in him, especially after exhibiting improvement last season with key runs. If both Tewatia and Shahrukh are in the game, one may serve as an impact player. Their contributions lower down the order could significantly benefit GT, considering the bulk of runs last season came from the top order,” Bangar stated.
He also mentioned that integrating New Zealand's Glenn Phillips into the playing XI would inject additional energy into the batting lineup.
Bangar further discussed the factors contributing to Rashid Khan's diminishing mystery in T20 cricket:
“The waning of Rashid Khan's mystery could arise from several reasons. Batters have become more familiar with his style, as he participates in numerous major franchise T20 leagues. His reputation as a franchise legend means players globally have ample opportunities to face him. The more a batter encounters a bowler, the more strategies they develop to counter him. The pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium does not favor slower deliveries, which was a key part of Rashid's strategy in terms of trapping batters either LBW or bowled. Additionally, his recent injury may have affected his pace. These factors could be impacting his performance, though he remains capable of taking two or three wickets while maintaining an economy rate below eight runs per over,” said Bangar, who has previously coached the Punjab Kings.
