Gandhinagar, Sep 11 (NationPress) As Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel approaches the four-year milestone in his tenure on Saturday (September 13), the Gujarat government has emphasized the significant impact of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) in ensuring healthcare accessibility for citizens confronting severe medical emergencies.
Throughout the last four years, the CMRF has provided assistance exceeding Rs 84.29 crore to 3,761 patients requiring expensive treatments, including organ transplants, cancer therapies, and cochlear implants.
The CMRF in Gujarat is a humanitarian initiative designed to deliver prompt financial aid to individuals in critical scenarios.
This fund primarily addresses the needs of those battling serious and life-threatening conditions such as cancer, kidney failure, liver and bone marrow transplants, heart surgeries, and other high-cost medical interventions that standard health insurance plans or government initiatives do not cover.
In addition to healthcare support, the CMRF is also activated during natural disasters such as floods, droughts, cyclones, and accidents to provide relief and rehabilitation for affected families.
Among the beneficiaries is 21-year-old MBBS student Hetviben Shah from Vadodara, who received Rs 3.58 lakh for a cochlear implant, preventing her academic journey from being hindered by hearing loss.
Likewise, Hajabhai Khunti, a 71-year-old resident of Ahmedabad diagnosed with cancer, was granted Rs 2.83 lakh for his treatment at HCG Cancer Care Hospital. Both families expressed that the timely financial support alleviated their burdens and renewed their hope.
State officials noted that the CMRF not only delivers economic assistance but also acts as a source of emotional encouragement for patients and their families during critical health challenges.
Beneficiaries have described this fund as “a scheme without comparison” and called for broader awareness so that more individuals in need can take advantage of it.
Meanwhile, the government has reiterated its dedication to bolstering the fund as part of its healthcare safety net for citizens.
The official website of the CMRF states that the fund is sustained through voluntary contributions from individuals, NRIs, service organizations, entrepreneurs, artists, and writers.
