Gandhinagar, Feb 18 (NationPress) The government of Gujarat unveiled its budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on Wednesday, detailing an impressive outlay of Rs 4.08 lakh crore, marking a historic moment for the state.
Presented by State Finance Minister Kanu Desai, this budget signifies his fifth consecutive year of delivering the financial plan in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
During his address, Desai highlighted that the budget is structured on five core pillars: social security, human resource development, intra-infrastructural facilities, economic activities, and green growth, showcasing the government’s commitment to a holistic development strategy for the upcoming year.
“With the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our administration is employing a comprehensive and inclusive framework. I am proud to present this record-setting budget of Rs 4,08,053 crore,” he remarked.
The Budget Session commenced on Monday and is expected to run until March 25, allowing ample time for debate and discussion surrounding the budget.
Speaker Shankar Chaudhary confirmed that there will be 26 sittings throughout this session.
Historical data from the Assembly shows a consistent increase in the budget size over recent years, starting from Rs 2,43,965 crore in 2022-23, rising to Rs 3,01,021 crore for 2023-24, Rs 3,32,465 crore in 2024-25, and Rs 3,70,250 crore in 2025-26.
This year's budget illustrates a continued growth in fiscal ambitions. The previous year’s budget focused on various developmental initiatives, including the Rs 50,000 crore ‘Viksit Gujarat Fund’ allocated over five years, with Rs 5,000 crore designated for 2025-26, alongside significant investments in agriculture, urban housing, and water resources.
Governor Acharya Devvrat, addressing the Assembly at the session's outset, mentioned that the state has provided Rs 9,610 crore in compensation for crop damage to over 33 lakh farmers impacted by unseasonal rains, while also emphasizing advancements in technology-driven administrative reforms and sustainable farming practices.
The budget will undergo scrutiny and discussion by the Assembly members in the weeks ahead.
