Guna robbery: 4 arrested, ₹16.77 lakh recovered in 18 hours
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guna police arrested four persons and recovered ₹16.77 lakh within 18 hours of a cash robbery in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, in which ₹17 lakh was snatched from an employee of a coriander trader on 8 July 2025. The swift crackdown, aided by CCTV analysis and technical surveillance, led to the near-total recovery of the stolen amount.
How the Robbery Unfolded
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of 8 July near Nichla Bazar Rapta in Guna city. The complainant, Vasudev Sharma, an employee of a coriander trader, was transporting ₹17 lakh in cash — comprising ₹15 lakh collected from Pachore and ₹2 lakh from Guna — to Kumbhraj.
The accused intercepted Sharma near a causeway, reportedly sprayed a substance into his eyes, snatched the bag containing the cash, and fled the scene. A case was registered immediately after the incident was reported.
The Investigation and Arrests
Guna Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal said six police teams were constituted to crack the case. 'A case was registered immediately after the incident, and multiple police teams were formed to investigate the matter. Based on CCTV footage, technical evidence and other inputs, we arrested the accused within 18 hours,' Vasal said at a press conference on Thursday, 9 July.
The investigation involved CCTV footage analysis from multiple locations, technical surveillance, field verification, and intelligence from local sources. The speed of the operation reflects a coordinated multi-team response that is increasingly being used by Madhya Pradesh police in property crime cases.
Roles of the Four Accused
During interrogation, police established distinct roles for each of the four arrested individuals. Two of them allegedly carried out the robbery directly, one helped the perpetrators escape, and one had provided prior information about the movement of the cash — pointing to a pre-planned operation with insider knowledge.
A Swift car allegedly used in the crime was also seized by the police.
Recovery and What Remains
Police recovered ₹16,77,100 of the stolen amount — nearly the entire sum looted. Vasal said, 'We have recovered almost the entire stolen amount and the vehicle used in the offence. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to recover the remaining amount and ascertain whether the accused were involved in any other similar cases.'
The four accused remain in custody and are being questioned. Investigators are also probing whether the gang has links to other robberies in the region.
