Naveen Kumar, aged 28, hails from New Colony, Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram. His arrest occurred on Monday night.
Inspector Rambir Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the Sector 10A police station, stated, “The accused had shared several bank account numbers with the girl through a social media platform, instructing her to transfer money from her grandmother’s bank account. The victim, a Class 9 student residing in Sector 10, managed her grandmother’s online banking. The situation came to light on December 21, when the grandmother noticed that her account was depleted and subsequently contacted the police.
“Only after being questioned by her parents and grandmother did the girl reveal the extent of the blackmail,” added SHO Singh.
The suspect was presented in a city court on Monday following his arrest.

The police managed to recover Rs 5.13 lakh and the victim's ATM card from the suspect. Efforts continue to locate the other suspects and identify the schoolmate who revealed the girl’s details to the extortionists, police reported.
