Gorakhpur, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday, honored Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the former Prime Minister, on their birth anniversaries.
CM Yogi laid floral tributes on the portraits of both iconic leaders at the Gorakhnath Temple and reflected on their immense contributions to the nation. He asserted that the state's double-engine government is diligently working to fulfill the aspirations and vision of Bapu and Shastri ji.
In remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi, CM Yogi remarked, "Under his guidance, India showcased to the world the might of truth and non-violence during the freedom struggle."
He underscored that Swadeshi was pivotal to Gandhi's ideology, acting as a cohesive force against colonial rule, which today serves as a model for both India and the global community in realizing Bapu's vision.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Uttar Pradesh's One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative draws inspiration from the Swadeshi spirit and is achieving notable success. He further emphasized that Swadeshi extends beyond Khadi, integrating into India's daily life.
"From chips to ships, India is advancing towards self-reliance," he stated.
Additionally, he announced that Swadeshi fairs, inspired by the recent International Trade Show, would be held in every district before Diwali. He encouraged the public to gift Khadi and other Swadeshi products during the festival.
"This will not only honor artisans and craftsmen but also create jobs, promote self-reliance, and bolster the nation's economy," he added.
CM Yogi also acknowledged Gandhi's focus on cleanliness, citing the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission as a fitting tribute to Bapu's mission.
"Through this initiative, 12 crore toilets have been constructed nationwide, ensuring dignity for women, enhancing health, and alleviating financial burdens for families. Today, cleanliness has become both our identity and India's brand," he remarked.
In honoring Lal Bahadur Shastri, CM Yogi portrayed him as a pioneering freedom fighter, a true Gandhian, and a firm proponent of self-reliance.
He recalled Shastriji’s famous slogan, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan', which reinforced India's commitment to food self-sufficiency while maintaining a pledge to peace.
"Simultaneously, Shastriji made it clear that if India were attacked, the nation would respond decisively," the Chief Minister stressed.
He further stated that the decisive triumph in the 1965 war under Shastriji's guidance showcased India's prowess to the world.
