Islamabad, Dec 4 (NationPress) Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has submitted a request to the Islamabad High Court, seeking authorization to undergo medical examinations and tests at Shaukat Khanum Hospital within three days, as reported by local media on Thursday.
The founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party filed this petition through Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The petition urges the court to mandate monthly medical check-ups for Imran Khan at Shaukat Khanum Hospital, along with granting full access to medical professionals and allowing examinations tailored to his medical history and current health status, as stated by The News International.
In the plea, Imran Khan has asked for a copy of the medical report to be provided to his family and submitted to the court. The document claims that he is enduring various medical issues and has been convicted on the federal government’s orders as part of a political vendetta.
On Wednesday, Imran Khan criticized Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, labeling him a “mentally ill person” and alleged that he has undermined the constitution.
In a statement shared on X, Imran Khan expressed, “Asim Munir is a mentally ill person whose moral degradation has completely destroyed the constitution and law in Pakistan, and the basic human rights of any Pakistani are no longer protected. My wife and I have been imprisoned on false charges on the orders of Asim Munir and are being subjected to the most severe mental torture. I have been completely locked up in a cell and put in solitary confinement. I have not met a single human being for four weeks and I have been kept completely unaware of the outside world, even our basic needs as provided by the prison manual have been eliminated.”
He further added, “Despite the orders of the High Court, first my meeting with political colleagues was banned and now my meeting with lawyers and family members has also been stopped. Look at any human rights charter and mental torture is also called 'torture' and is considered a more serious act than physical torture. My sister Noreen Niazi was dragged onto the street just because she had the legitimate right to meet me.”
On Tuesday, Imran Khan's sister Uzma Khanum stated that his health is “fine”, although he continues to experience mental torture.
After visiting Khan at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, Uzma Khanum remarked, “Imran Khan’s health is fine. However, he was very angry and said that they are subjecting him to mental torture. He is kept in his room throughout the day, with only a little time to go outside, and there is no communication with anyone.”
Uzma Khanum mentioned that her meeting with Imran Khan lasted for 20 minutes, occurring after Adiala jail authorities had previously denied access to family members and party officials.
Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and is facing multiple legal challenges, including allegations of corruption and terrorism, following his removal from office in a no-trust motion in 2022.
