Mumbai, Nov 23 (NationPress) Imtiaz Ali's "Amar Singh Chamkila" has received nominations at the International Emmys across two categories: 'TV Movie/Mini-Series' and 'Best Performance by an Actor' for Diljit Dosanjh.
Imtiaz, accompanied by producer Mohit Choudhary, participated in the panel and medal ceremony at the 53rd International Emmy World Television Festival.
During the discussion, Imtiaz expressed that he views "Amar Singh Chamkila" as a love story between an art form and an artist.
Reflecting on the film's remarkable journey, he noted, "Netflix's contribution to the film Amar Singh Chamkila is exceptional and irreplaceable. Initially, we faced numerous challenges while creating this film. However, once Netflix became involved and we opted for a direct-to-digital release, all obstacles vanished. It was Netflix's unwavering belief in the narrative that propelled the film forward, and their persistent support gave me the confidence to realize my vision for the project."
Imtiaz emphasized his intent to center the film around the love story between an artist and his art, stating, "For me, this was a love story between an artist and his art. A singer and performance are like lovers, and at some point, it transcends money, success, and glamour; it's about the performance itself, to connect with the audience, and that was the core motivation for Amar Singh Chamkila's character, which I focused on."
Previously, Imtiaz reminisced about filming with Diljit at the precise location where the controversial singer's life was tragically cut short.
As he recalled the day the crew returned to Mehsampur to recreate Chamkila's death scene, he remarked, “We were filming at the exact spot where Chamkila was murdered. It was striking to see that everything remained unchanged. The house, the patch of ground outside it, and even the koti where he had lunch before the shooting, all looked the same after 34 years.”
