Imtiaz Ali Praises Diljit Dosanjh's Artistic Depth and Humanity
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 6 (NationPress) Renowned Indian filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is preparing for the release of his much-anticipated film ‘Main Vapas Aaunga’. He recently shared his thoughts on collaborating once again with the iconic Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh.
This film represents their second partnership following the streaming biopic ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, where Diljit portrayed the role of the legendary Punjabi folk singer.
In ‘Main Vapas Aaunga’, Imtiaz Ali explores profound themes such as separation, the Partition of India, and the resulting anguish. During a conversation with IANS for the film's promotion, he praised Diljit for his artistic depth.
Imtiaz remarked to IANS, “Diljit brings a significant amount of depth, purity, and soul to his work. He possesses a strong connection to his roots and embodies a certain humanity. He represents a community, is an exceptional actor, and it’s hard to comprehend how he maintains such integrity as an artist. He may not even consider himself an actor, yet he has received numerous awards, including nominations for the International Emmys, placing him in a prestigious category. My primary interest lies in him as an actor, which is why I am eager to work with him.”
He added, “Diljit has so many facets, and we aim to incorporate all of them into our work. In this film, it is more achievable than in our previous collaboration. Who he is today, his contemporary concerns, all contribute to the essence of this film. His performance feels raw and genuine.”
“While ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ connected with his roots, what he expresses now resonates more with the present, making it highly relevant,” he concluded.
The film, produced by Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal from Applause Entertainment, along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films, is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
