New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) India reaffirmed its eagerness to enhance the diverse bilateral relations with Bangladesh following the establishment of a fresh government under the guidance of Tarique Rahman.

"As you may have observed, after the elections in Bangladesh, our Prime Minister extended congratulations to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. On February 17, during the swearing-in ceremony, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, represented the Government of India. He delivered a letter from our Prime Minister to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh," stated Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during a weekly press briefing in New Delhi on Friday.

"During the meeting with the Bangladesh PM, we expressed our interest in strengthening our multifaceted relations. We look forward to engaging with the new government and moving forward on various issues, including visas, to enhance our bilateral ties. All aspects of our relationship will be discussed with them," he further elaborated.

This week, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met with the new Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as part of India's representation at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government in Dhaka.

"I was pleased to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh's new government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in Dhaka today. India is prepared to support Bangladesh in its efforts to build a democratic, progressive, and inclusive nation," Birla shared on X after the meeting.

During their discussion, Birla extended congratulations to Rehman on his new position and invited him to visit India. Both leaders showed a commitment to collaborate for the benefit of the citizens of India and Bangladesh.

In a statement shared on X, Riaz Hamidullah, Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India, conveyed, "Prime Minister H E Tarique Rahman sends his regards to India and PM Hon. Narendra Modi to the visiting Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, during a courtesy meet following the swearing-in of the new government."

"Hon Speaker conveyed wishes from India and an invitation to visit India. Both leaders expressed hope in working together for the welfare of the people of Bangladesh and India through a people-centric agenda of cooperation," he added.

Tarique Rahman was sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh after his party's significant success in the 13th Parliamentary elections held last week.
