In a post shared on the social media platform X, Joshi remarked that India’s transition to clean energy gained remarkable traction during the year, considerably enhancing the nation’s path to energy security, climate accountability, and a self-sustainable green economy.
“India celebrated an unprecedented year in clean energy in 2025,” Joshi noted on X.
“This extraordinary progress underscores decisive policy direction, a visionary outlook, and consistent execution under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fortifying India’s journey towards energy security, climate responsibility, and a self-sufficient green economy,” he elaborated.
As per the minister, India’s non-fossil fuel power capacity surged to 266.78 gigawatts in 2025, reflecting a remarkable growth of 22.6 percent compared to the previous year.
“This increase illustrates the effectiveness of continuous policymaking and targeted execution within the renewable energy sector,” Joshi clarified.
Solar energy emerged as the primary catalyst for this expansion. India’s solar power capacity soared to 135.81 gigawatts, showcasing a significant rise of 38.8 percent over 2024.
Wind energy capacity also grew steadily, reaching 54.51 gigawatts with a 13.2 percent increase throughout the year.
Joshi attributed this achievement to the Centre’s transparent policy direction and long-term dedication to clean and renewable energy.
“These accomplishments reflect India’s commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels while constructing a strong, green, and self-sufficient economy,” he remarked.
The minister emphasized that India’s clean energy advancements in 2025 not only bolster domestic energy security but also reaffirm the nation’s global pledge to climate actions, positioning India as a pivotal player in the global energy transition.
