Riga, May 31 (NationPress) An all-party delegation headed by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi engaged with Latvian Parliamentarians, underscoring that India will not accept any nuclear threats and will take decisive action against any acts of terrorism.

The leaders expressed India's collective dedication to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and introduced a new approach to handle terrorist threats.

The meeting included Ingrida Circene, Chairperson of the group fostering cooperation with the Parliament of India, and Inara Murniece, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, along with other committee members of Saeima, the Latvian Parliament.

Joining Kanimozhi were MPs like Rajeev Rai from the Samajwadi Party, Captain Brijesh Chowta (Retd.) from BJP, Prem Chand Gupta from RJD, Ashok Kumar Mittal from AAP, and former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri.

"During our visit, we had the privilege to meet with Ingrida Circene and H.E. Ms. Inara Murniece, along with other distinguished members of both committees. We articulated India's steadfast and unified stance against terrorism," Ashok Mittal shared on X this Saturday.

"We also elaborated on our evolving national doctrine, asserting that every act of terrorism and those who support it will be viewed as an attack on our national security. We reaffirmed that nuclear threats will not sway India's resolve. We are grateful for the Latvian counterparts' strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack and their clear position that terrorism in all its forms must be confronted without exception," the post continued.

The delegation also conversed with State Secretary Andzejs Vilumson and Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovics, Special Envoy for Latvia's UNSC Candidacy, discussing details about the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Vilumson reiterated Latvia's strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred in April and its unyielding stance against terrorism.

Latvia acknowledged India as a key player in the Indo-Pacific region for promoting peace and stability. The delegation expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visit to Ukraine last September, as stated by the Embassy.

Previously, India's Ambassador to Latvia Namrata S. Kumar briefed the all-party delegation on the dynamics of India-Latvia relations and Latvia's significance in the Baltics, European Union, and the United Nations.

She welcomed the delegation upon their arrival at the Riga International Airport.

This visit is set against the backdrop of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India's anti-terror Operation Sindoor, and subsequent developments.

The delegation will also engage with high-ranking officials of the Government of the Republic of Latvia, members from academia, the media, the Indian diaspora, and other stakeholders.

Furthermore, the Indian parliamentarians paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the National Library of Latvia in Riga.

The delegates are reinforcing India's unified position and robust message of zero-tolerance towards terrorism in all forms, alongside the resolute framework delineated in India's new doctrine for countering terrorism, its supporters, and the perpetrators of cross-border terrorism.

"India and Latvia enjoy strong bilateral relations, both politically and at the people-to-people level. Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs promptly issued an April 22 statement on X, expressing deep condolences to the victims and strongly condemning all forms of terrorism," stated the Indian Embassy in Riga.

"This all-party parliamentary delegation's visit marks the first high-level engagement from India to Latvia since the establishment of India's new resident Mission in Riga in July 2024, symbolizing the deepening and strengthening ties between India and Latvia, as well as India's commitment to collaborate with like-minded nations like Latvia and the global community in the battle against terrorism in all its forms," the statement elaborated.

As part of India's global diplomatic outreach to highlight the significance of Operation Sindoor and its ongoing fight against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, the delegation arrived in Latvia following successful engagements in Greece, Slovenia, and Russia, reaffirming India's firm commitment to combating terrorism.
