Intel Partners with Digital India BHASHINI to Launch Offline Multilingual AI Solutions on PCs
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 2 (NationPress) Intel India has officially partnered with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to introduce the offline real-time translation and transcription tool, BHASHINI’s Vidyalekha, on Intel-based AI PCs. This initiative, developed under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, aims to enhance educational opportunities for students, content creators, schools, and academic institutions by providing translation and transcription services across various Indian languages.
The collaboration seeks to make multilingual AI accessible, fostering innovative solutions that can be utilized in classrooms nationwide.
BHASHINI Vidyalekha is specifically designed to operate offline on laptops, assisting college students, particularly those educated in their native languages, by transcribing English lectures and translating them into their preferred languages.
“This represents a pivotal achievement in implementing Indic language models and applications on AI PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra series processors, enabling efficient and high-performance AI inferencing on both end-user and edge devices,” the announcement stated.
This partnership has led to advancements allowing AI operations to be performed locally on PCs, resulting in low latency performance and the ability to function without internet access, thereby ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of data.
By facilitating the execution of sovereign AI models directly on AI PCs, Intel and BHASHINI are democratizing AI beyond traditional cloud and data center environments, empowering end users with robust AI capabilities, as noted by the semiconductor giant.
During the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Intel and BHASHINI showcased models for automatic speech recognition alongside text-to-speech and translation functionalities, enabling real-time translation and transcription on AI PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra Series processors.
“By optimizing BHASHINI and AI4Bharat models for Intel Core Ultra processors, we have enhanced execution efficiency across CPU, GPU, and NPU resources, achieving high performance while ensuring power efficiency,” stated Gokul Subramaniam, President of Intel India.
BHASHa INterface for India (BHASHINI) is an initiative under MeitY, leveraging AI technology to support multilingual capabilities encompassing 36 texts, 22 voices, and 35 international languages, aiming to bridge gaps in literacy and language.
