Jammu and Kashmir Police Aid Stranded Travelers During Snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 27 (NationPress) In light of the persistent snowfall and perilous road situations, the Jammu and Kashmir police in Anantnag district swiftly rendered aid to travelers and patients stuck at different locations throughout the district, notably rescuing nine individuals at Sinthan Top.

"The police successfully rescued nine passengers who were stranded at Sinthan Top due to severe snowfall. This incident transpired when a Tavera vehicle, which was en route from Kishtwar to Daksum, skidded into a water drain, leaving its occupants trapped in adverse weather conditions," the statement noted.

"The distress call, made by Fayaz Ahmad, a passenger in the vehicle, was swiftly acted upon by the police. A police team, led by the SDPO Kokernag and SHO Larnoo, rushed to the scene and successfully evacuated all nine passengers, including the caller, to safety," the statement continued.

Additionally, specialized assistance teams have been deployed at critical locations throughout the district. These teams are prepared to provide immediate help to vehicles and travelers affected by the slippery roads and heavy snowfall.

"The public is urged to exercise caution while traveling under such weather conditions. For emergencies or assistance, citizens are encouraged to dial 112," the statement added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared on X his concerns regarding the condition of the highway between Qazigund and the tunnel, stating that he has prioritized vehicles with children and families while clearing the backlog of stranded vehicles.

"I just spoke with DC Anantnag regarding the current state of the road between Qazigund and the tunnel. The icy conditions have led to traffic congestion. The stranded vehicles, in both directions, are gradually moving and are being assisted where necessary. The DC is on-site with his team. I instructed him to ensure that vehicles with families and children receive priority. If needed, arrangements for overnight shelter will be made. The DC is accompanied by an ambulance for any medical emergencies," Omar Abdullah stated on X.
