Tourist Fatality on Jammu-Srinagar Highway; Six Rescued from Snow-Laden Mughal Road

Srinagar, Dec 28 (NationPress) A woman tourist tragically lost her life on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, while law enforcement officials rescued six individuals trapped in snow on the Mughal Road.
According to officials, a massive rock rolled down the hillside in the Mehar area of Ramban district, striking a minibus and causing serious injuries to a woman tourist.
She was promptly taken to Ramban district hospital, where medical staff confirmed she was dead on arrival. The deceased tourist was identified as Ruby Agarwal, hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
Additionally, police managed to rescue six individuals who were stuck in the snow on the Mughal Road in Poonch district.
On Friday night, two vehicles traveling from Shopian to Surankote became immobilized in the snow at Chattapani on the Mughal Road.
A police team quickly arrived at the scene and successfully evacuated the stranded individuals to safety, as per official reports.
In the meantime, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Mughal Road, and Srinagar-Leh Highway are currently closed to traffic.
Roads leading to Gurez in Bandipora, Tangdhar in Kupwara district, and the Sinthan Road connecting Kishtwar from Anantnag district in the Valley have also been shut due to heavy snowfall.
The traffic department has issued advisories for commuters, urging them to refrain from traveling on these roads until further updates from the authorities regarding their status.
Defying predictions made by the MET department, significant snowfall has disrupted normal life in the Valley, as authorities work to restore electricity and traffic flow on the main roads in Srinagar city and other areas.
The MET department has forecast rain and snow in J&K over the next 24 hours.
Tourist hotspots such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg have experienced fresh snowfall, while Srinagar city and the surrounding plains, including Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla, and Kupwara, witnessed the season's initial snowfall on Friday.
