Traffic Flow Resumed on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway

Srinagar, Dec 29 (NationPress) Traffic on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway was resumed on Sunday as officials encouraged travelers to maintain lane discipline to mitigate highway congestion.

According to traffic department officials, vehicles are now moving in both directions on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which had been closed on Saturday due to significant snowfall in Kashmir.

Officials stated on Sunday, "Passenger traffic is currently flowing on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Travelers are urged to observe lane discipline, as overtaking can lead to congestion. Additionally, caution is advised while driving due to slippery conditions between Banihal and Qazigund. However, alternative routes such as Mughal Road, Sinthan Road, Sonamarg-Kargil Road, and Bhaderwah-Chamba Road remain closed due to snow accumulation."

Helplines have been set up along the nearly 300 km stretch of highway. "In case of any issues, travelers should reach out to traffic control in Jammu at 0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, or 9419147732," officials stated.

"In Srinagar, the numbers are 0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, and 103. In Ramban district, the contact is 9419993745, 1800-180-7043, and in Udhampur at 8491928625," the officials added.

Authorities are also working to restore traffic on routes such as Srinagar-Baramulla, Srinagar-Kupwara, Srinagar-Bandipora, and other inter-district roads throughout the Valley.

Reports from Ganderbal district indicate that residents in areas like Sonamarg, Gund, and Kulan have opened their homes and mosques to provide shelter to tourists from the biting cold and hunger.

For the past two days, since the evening of December 27, locals in Kulgam and Anantnag districts have opened their mosques and homes, providing heating arrangements, blankets, food, and drinking water for tourists.

This commendable gesture has been deeply appreciated by travelers from various parts of the country. Tourists currently in the Valley have expressed their commitment to stand as sentinels of support and protection for all Kashmiri students and traders pursuing education or business in other regions of the country.

Meanwhile, airport authorities have announced the restoration of flight operations at Srinagar International Airport with the arrival of flights now.
