2 dead, 2 missing as vehicle plunges into nallah on J&K's Mughal Road
Two persons were found dead and two others remain missing after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a nallah near Chhattapani on the Mughal Road in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, officials said. The vehicle, which had gone missing since Monday, was traced during a large-scale search and rescue operation launched by Poonch district police.

Poonch district police confirmed that four individuals had gone missing on Monday while travelling along the Mughal Road. A search operation was immediately launched, and on Tuesday, the missing vehicle was located in a gorge — referred to locally as a nallah — near Chhattapani. Upon retrieval of the vehicle, the bodies of two persons were recovered from the site. The remaining two individuals are still unaccounted for, with search teams continuing operations in the area.
Snowfall Complicates Search and Rescue
Heavy snowfall was reported in the Pir Ki Gali area of the Mughal Road on both Monday and Tuesday, prompting authorities to close the road for all vehicular traffic. The adverse weather conditions have significantly hampered rescue efforts, making it difficult to access the steep gorge terrain. Officials stated:
